And now if I wanna create another layer, then if I want my new shapes to go inside this layer I need to make sure it's selected and I can create more shapes that we put inside this layer. And now these objects are inside my layer. So now if I want to contain my rectangles here inside that layer, I'm going to need to drag and drop into that layer. They primarily act as containers for all of your paths and shapes and images and texts. And layers in Gravit are primarily for organization. And that's gonna give you a folder type icon. ![]() It's not obvious right away but to create what is actually called a layer in Gravit, you need to hit this little button here to create a new layer. And that is that by default, you might think that these items here are actually layers but they're not. So now there's just one more thing that I wanna show you about the layer system. So it can't be moved or edited accidentally and the other is the ability to show or hide that object. And you'll also notice that when I hover over any of these items, I have two things appear on the right here. So that's just another really handy way to help you keep track of everything that is going on in your document. And another thing that I wanna point out about the Layers panel, while we're still in this presentation document is if you have a look at the little icons on the left side of each one of these objects here, it tells you what type of objects you're working with. But you can see that all that empty space that was there at the top and bottom has now gone. This isn't filling out my whole screen and that's only because the template that we chose has a different aspect ratio to the monitor that I'm currently using. Now you can see that the black bars at the top and bottom are gone. Now, we can rename this rectangle too by selecting it and then double-clicking on it and we can name this to, say, clip to canvas To help us keep track of the purpose of this shape and now I'm going to presentation. And if we expand this, We can still access all our individual items in here as well. But now, everything is lined up flash with it. So if I move this, you can actually see that we still got our canvas underneath. Now, everything is nicely clipped and we don't have any excess image or anything else hanging over the outside. Now we're gonna drag and drop them onto our top rectangle here. So now to get rid of all of this extra area here, we're gonna clip all of that off by selecting all of our items by clicking the first item, holding Shift, and then selecting the bottom item. Gonna position it at 0, On both the x and y positions. ![]() So we can see here that we have 1024 by 768. So let's have a look and see what size the canvas is by clicking anywhere outside all of the objects. I want it to be the same size as that canvas. And then I'm gonna nest all of these other objects inside it. So I'm going to create a new rectangle and I'm gonna have it at the top of our Layers panel here. So we gonna take this functionality and we're gonna use it to solve that problem in the presentation mode here. That gives us a way to control which portion of any given shape that we were gonna have visible on the canvas. Now if we click on each one, we can select either of these rectangles. So if we expand over here on the left by clicking this little arrow, you can see we still have both of our rectangles here. ![]() So all we can see is whatever parts of this rectangle are visible through this rectangle's shape. So now what's happened here is this rectangle here is clipping this rectangle here. And what I can do is actually take one of these rectangles and drag it up and drop it on top of the other rectangle here in the Layers panel. Actually, that's probably going to look a bit too garish on your screen there. Just change this one as well, make it a little brighter. I'm gonna change their color, I'll change one of their colors so that you can see the difference between the two. So I'm just gonna start by drawing out two rectangles. So the first thing we're gonna look at with our Layers panel is the ability to nest shapes and paths inside one another so that you can clip off different parts of images and shapes and other objects that you have in your design. In the last lesson, we looked at presentation mode in Gravit and we saw that we have a bit of a problem with some protruding elements in our design that we don't actually want to have visible. In this lesson, we're gonna check out the Layers panel in Gravit and we're gonna look at the main functions that it offers you. Hey, welcome back to Gravit Designer Quick Start.
